I see it all the time, yet it never gets old. I walk to my seats at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium and look around, only to find colors of another team sitting next to me.
And these just aren’t any colors: it’s the color blue. As in University of Kentucky blue.
Which would be fine, if U of L was playing UK. But that happens once every other year. UK gear finds its way into PJCS every game.
Normally there aren’t any issues with wearing another team’s colors. It just shows an extreme amount of disrespect for this University.
It isn’t just UK fans that showcase their pride for another school. I see shirts proclaiming support for every team that’s within driving range from Louisville.
You know how bad that looks on television? When ESPN’s cameras scan the crowd only to find just as many hats from other schools as there are Louisville? Right there, those fans lose respect, as not only do the fans not like the Cards enough to wear U of L stuff, they dislike them so much they show their allegiance to another team.
Let’s take a stand.
No more wearing other team’s clothes when in attendance at a Louisville Cardinal athletic event, unless that other team is the one matching up with the Cards on the field.
Call it an invasion of free speech if you want. I don’t see it that way. If you don’t want to wear something with “University of Louisville” on it, then wear something with “Old Navy” or whatever else the kids think are cool nowadays.
Just don’t wear other team’s clothes, especially those of our biggest rival, and expect that to be okay.
