Enclosed you will find one copy of The Louisville Cardinal newspaper, equipped with news about upcoming events and instructions on how to make your first year at the University of Louisville the best it can be.

As an independent student newspaper, The Cardinal strives to bring unbiased news and culture to the students of U of L.

The news section of the paper covers important events which impact students on a daily basis and pushes students to include themselves on campus. News publishes stories that are essential to the function of the university, including stories which deal with crime, dining, student services, parking and more.

The opinion section should be used as a sounding board for the ideas of the students, on and off campus. Letters to the editor are encouraged and run frequently. The Cardinal does not discriminate against ideas, even if they may not be the least popular amongst the majority of readers. The first amendment guarantees the right to free speech and The Cardinal will not revoke that right, within reason.

The sports section covers all sports, from intramurals to varsity level teams. With nine men’s varsity and 11 women’s varsity sports, this section never lacks enthusiasm and school spirit. Sports give a different perspective to the sporting events that happen on campus, as well as in-depth coverage of non-revenue and intramural sports.

The Beat section is newly designed to incorporate both arts and entertainment. This section strives to cover not only events occurring on campus, but also events which occur around Louisville that interest students. Readers can find many profiles of interesting students and professors here.

All of the stories published in The Cardinal can also be found online at www.louisvillecardinal.com. Readers can find photo reels from events around campus, as well as student blogs about different topics that concern the lives of college students.

Anyone interested in joining The Cardinal as a staff reporter or photographer can find an application outside The Cardinal office, located in the basement of the Houchen’s building, room LL07. Experience is not necessary, but preferred.
