For any student out their that fit these requirements: a sophomore, junior, or senior standing and a minimum 2.0 GPA ,then you are eligible for an internship in the field that you are studying. An internship is monitored work or service usually in the area you are majoring or minoring in.

There are many places or contacts you can go to, to get more information on how to get an internship and to find an internship that is right for you. First, you can call the office of the school department that you are interested in. This is a long process you usually get put on hold for 10 minutes and get transferred to 5 different people before you get helped. The easiest way to get information about an internship is to go to U of L’s web page and where it says “search” type in your study of interest and internship. For example, if you are interested in a Business internship then type business internship than many choices should appear that you can browse through.

If you are interested in a communications internship which can be anything from stastical analysis, marketing, journalism, advertisement, and much more. Community Organizer Internship needs a political community organizer to fill a part-time paid position. For more information on this you can contact Patrick Jefferys at 852-6695. If Law is what interest you, then the School of Law offers public service internships, which allows you to learn about the legal needs of low income population, but also put the legal theory into practice. The two they offer is a Legal Aid Clinical internship and a Criminal Justice internship. For more information contact Dana Williams at 852-8850.

The field of Political Science is also very helpful when it comes to internships. You can hold a position in senator McConnell’s local office or his office in Washington D.C. Their are also many positions available in Legislative Research Commission in Frankfort. The Political Science department also conducts a brief internship workshop prior to fall and spring courses. Remember an internship is a great way to apply classroom learning to the real world, gain new information, and gain self confidence.
